The DS Ergonomics seating service encompasses:

Providing appropriate chairs for users.
Seating solutions for postural problems.
On site surveys.
Taking postural measurements where necessary.
Trial chairs for user assessment.
Educating the operator to use the chair properly

The correct chair is fundamental in relieving the inherent problems of being seated for many hours particularly for computer users. It is important to ensure that seating in the workplace is safe, suitable for the task performed and comfortable.

According to the Workplace (Health, Safety and Welfare) Regulations 1992:

Employers are required to provide seating for employees that are safe, meet the needs of the individual and are suitable for the tasks involved.
The work chair should be stable and allow the user freedom of movement and a comfortable position
The seat should be adjustable in height.
The seat back should be adjustable in both height and tilt (rake).

The following measurements are important when selecting a chair:

Behind knee to rear of buttocks.
Behind knee to floor.
Seat to lower border scapula (shoulder blade).
Seat to shoulder.
Seat to nape of neck.
Elbow to elbow (i.e. measure across the back with arms at the side of the body.
Elbow to seat.
